Taiwan manufacturer has another winner in hand in HTC One M8 – establishes a new benchmark in smartphones
After many speculations and leaks HTC officially launched its flagship smartphone HTC One M8. Previous version of One Max earned the reputation of best smartphone. In addition to smartphones from rival companies the new M8 is likely to set new standards.
Is HTC One M8 best looking phone?
HTC One M8 must be one of the best looking phones around. Its bold, brushed metal design has a curve and is very comfortable to hold in hand. There are two additional color options (silver and gold) but they do not have the hairline pattern. Strongly built phone has the dimensions 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35 mm and weighs 160 gm.
M8’s 5.0 inch display is scratch resistant and offer full HD 1080 p. The display beneath Corning Gorilla Glass 3 automatically adjusts to ambient light. Overall the display size and quality is improved over earlier One.
Dual Camera with UltraPixels
HTC One M8 as it was rumored comes with two lenses on its back. It also has a dual-LED flash array. With the help of the second lens M8 offers depth sensing feature, ufocus. Every time a photo is taken, the second lens allows user in selecting a different focus point. Ufocus is quite useful in removing blurry results.
Mobile camera technology today hinges too much on megapixels and there is a need to adopt better methods. HTC One M8 makes use of a new technology from HTC, termed as UltraPixel. An UltraPixel in simple terms is larger pixel which captures 300% and more light than most leading 13 megapixel cameras. HTC claims this to be an advanced imaging technology that provides significantly better photos and videos. True-to-life images can be obtained using more advanced CMOS Sensor, ISP, and optical lens system.
Despite their efforts HTC One M8 cannot claim the best picture quality. This aspect will surely require some improvements in later versions.
Other HTC One M8 Specifications
Everyone expected M8 to be based on cutting edge hardware and it is. Its 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor is latest kid on the block. Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2 are the other two smartphones that use Snapdragon 801 from Qualcomm. This is further clubbed with 2GB supply of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage. Users have the option of adding up to 128GB additional storage through microSD card.
Powered with latest specifications HTC One M8 operates like a breeze. Things change on screen faster than you actually notice them. Users should find hardly any complaints when it comes to M8 performance.
Battery size and life
HTC One M8 is equipped with a 2,600mAh Li-polymer battery which is a notch up from previous version. Previous One had a 2300 mAh battery. The battery is rated to provide up to 20 hrs of 3G talk time. On a regular day this battery should serve you for the whole day.
Downside with battery is that it is non-removable. Once the battery wears out you will have to take it to service center for replacement.
The big question for new One
Has HTC got a winner in form of M8? Surely it has. HTC One M8 is a major improvement over earlier version and matches well against other top smartphones.
When Sony and others are rolling out devices that are water proof it is disappointing to see an M8 chassis that is not water resistant.
Starting April HTC One M8 will be available for purchase. Though HTC is now focusing more on mid range products, it still needs high end product. It should do well to maintain HTC legacy as best smartphone. The official pricing is not yet disclosed. Expertreviews reports that M8 will have an initial price of £530 ($875). It will be good starting price and telecom companies will make it further attractive with various plans.
